Vacancy – Head of Impact

Head of Impact is a new position created to strengthen Norsad Capital’s outreach to investors, drive impact returns in our investments and enhance internal operations as the organization grows in Africa. The Head of Impact will lead the Norsad Capital ESG & Impact Team, who are responsible for the integration of impact and ESG related matters into the Norsad Capital investment process. This is a key role supporting the implementation of Norsad’s strategy and the Head of Impact will be required to support and drive this strategy within the orgainsation and report to the CEO. This is a full time position at Norsad Capital and would be based at either our offices in Gaborone, Botswana or Johannesburg, South Africa. Remote working is possible, but will involve significant time in Gaborone and Johannesburg.

Responsibilities

The Head of Impact will be responsible for managing relationships with investors, portfolio companies and other stakeholders while developing strategies to build Norsad Capital’s impact narrative and support our impact themes and measurement. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who would thrive in a dynamic environment working to help us develop, manage, measure, and communicate progress across our business in generating impact at scale, while concurrently shaping the consensus understanding of how to successfully integrate impact into each of our investment strategies and products.

This is an opportunity for a professional to realise their ambition and leadership skills within investment management and help establish Norsad Capital as a recognised thought leader in the field of impact management, measurement, and delivery. The Head will work closely with the entire Norsad Capital team to ensure that our impact themes are supported through our investment process. Responsibilities will include:

• Developing and implementing our impact strategy and framework;
• Designing and developing the impact management framework, including the theory of change for each of our investment strategies and products;
• Researching and analysing potential investments to understand their potential impact contribution and alignment with our impact themes (Impact due diligence);
• Monitoring the performance of our portfolio against selected KPIs and initial development/impact goals;
• Provide support to our portfolio companies with respect to the development and implementation of their impact framework;
• Managing and expanding relationships with investors and investees to build Norsad Capital’s investment portfolio, including prospect research and presentations on our impact;
• Overseeing the preparation of investor impact-related materials/report sections which include annual impact reports, quarterly and annual reports and other reporting and marketing requirements;
• Ensuring Norsad Capital is consistent with international best practices and standards related to impact management;
• Evaluate our portfolio to ensure it is in alignment with our Corporate Strategy and framework and identify potential areas of improvement/growth to support the development of our impact narrative.

Qualifications and Requirements

• At least 10 years of relevant experience in impact and/or responsible investing, impact measurement, and ESG strategy development (preferably in investment management or consulting).
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in a related discipline.
• Knowledge and understanding of key frameworks and metrics in impact measurement methodologies (i.e. GIIN, UNPRI, TCFD, IRIS+ etc.).
• Strong analytical and methodological skills.
• Previous experience and ability to manage teams with limited resources, develop and implement systems to improve efficiency.
• Excellent analytical, general business, organizational and time management skills.
• Exceptional English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated success in solving problems and collaborating with diverse stakeholders (e.g., across race, gender, class, and cultural lines).
• Ability to perform under pressure, problem solve and provide solutions when required.
• Strong organisational skills to coordinate efforts across the team, including the management and mentoring of team members.
• It is advantageous if you have previous experience working with social development and sustainability in developing countries.
• This position requires travelling to our portfolio companies and potential investments in Africa.
