Investment and Treasury Program Manager – Earthjustice

Earthjustice is seeking an Investment and Treasury Program Manager to drive and oversee the investment and treasury functions of the nation’s premier environmental law organization. The portfolio includes supporting investment decision-making, building investment operations, managing cash flow, and maintaining banking relationships.

As Earthjustice continues to grow, its investment and treasury needs have become more complex. The organization has grown tremendously over the past decade and is looking for a strategic and thoughtful partner to drive more sophisticated management approach to over $250M in investments and $150M in annual cash flows. In addition to supporting the work of the Investment Committee of the Board, the position will also support the work of 500 staff operating in almost every state as well as internationally by overseeing banking relationships, supporting fundraising and helping to champion mission-aligned investing.

The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to build these roles at a critical national institution and will work closely with the Investment Committee of the Board and internal partners, including the Budgeting, Accounting, General Counsel, and Planned Giving departments. This is a new position and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. This role can be based in our San Francisco, CA headquarters office, or fully remote within the United States. Depending on office availability, the Investment and Treasury Program Manager may also work from one of our other Earthjustice offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Investment: (50%)

  • Support the Earthjustice Investment Committee, including:
  • Managing committee agendas and work plans
  • Support the functioning of the investment committee including preparing committee memos, presentations, and analyses.
  • Shepherd and help ensure the success of mission & value-based investing.
  • Oversee organizational investment management, including:
  • Research, collect and analyze investment and financial data
  • Perform due diligence and research of new and existing investment managers, financial partners, products, and services.
  • Manage organizational investments including directing trades, monitoring investment performance, and managing investment relationships.
  • Provide investment support and expertise including:
  • Produce investment analysis and recommendations for the Board of Trustees, Life Income Investment Program, Staff Retirement Plan Committee and other internal stakeholders.
  • Respond to inquiries and run analyses and models
  • Investigate investment choices, analyze the impact of mission & value-based divestment decisions, and prepare presentations to Investment Committee
  • Assist with investigations and valuations of private equity or alternative investments
  • Support split-interest gift program as liaison to Planning Giving team or split-interest gift investment portfolios and reporting.

 

Treasury: (15%)

  • Support cash flow management, liquidity forecasting, and associated decision-making.
  • Manage monthly cash flow reporting and annual cash flow modeling
  • Prepare reports and analytics for board and leadership.
  • Make recommendations to the CFO on cash and treasury needs
  • Maintain and update internal investment, cash, and spending policies.

 

Banking: (35%)

  • Support bank account management activities, such as opening and closing accounts, fee analysis, signatory update, and system admin & user maintenance.
  • Prepare Wire and ACH transfers, investment transfers, and ad hoc payments for internal transfers between Earthjustice accounts.
  • Support banking inquiries throughout the year and during the annual audit.
  • Support addition and maintenance of client trust accounts or other banking requirements.
  • Support for EJ staff attorneys in IOLTA reporting for state bar associations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS Degree.
  • 5+ years investment experience, including:
  • At least two years of investment analysis experience and
  • Two years of direct client service experience with customers, investment committees or equivalent
  • Experience managing endowments, pensions, or similar experience highly desired
  • CFA or CFP highly desired
  • Experience in Office 365 (Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive).
  • Understanding of data privacy matters and electronic records management
  • Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations
  • Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences
  • Ability to learn quickly and take on responsibility
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and in-person communication skills
  • Private equity experience is a plus

Salary is based on experience and location. Note regarding salaries for remote locations: Salary ranges are listed on the job advertisement, but candidates will be placed in the range of their working location and experience level during the offer stage. If you are a remote applicant, then you need to indicate your working location and your salary range will be tied to that remote location.

Salary range in San Francisco, CA: $116,900 – $129,900

Salary range for remote: $99,500 – $129,900
