Three Things That Can Turbo Charge Your Impact Finance Career

career search

I've been working privately with our coaching clients since 2016 helping them better and more quickly execute on their impact career transition. While each client is unique, there are some key attributes that I've seen in some of my most successful clients. It's not surprising, but these are often the tenets of a successful career- one rooted in giving, gratitude, and reflection.  Here are some of what I've seen through some of my most successful coaching clients and some questions for you on how you can use the same techniques:   Giving Most professionals who are excelling in their career over the long term have embraced a giving attitude.  Many of them are the first to share resources in their network, help a colleague through a difficult task, and dole out insights and knowledge freely.  They often have a mindset of abundance and that there are more than enough opportunities for them to grow and excel.  Over time these professionals have developed enough social fabric and capital within their ecosystem that when someone has a chance to return the favor to them, they do so willingly and happily.    Action: Who is someone on your team or on your career journey who you can provide some extra support to this week? How do you think your support will help them achieve their goals?   Gratitude Many of us on our career journeys are where we are because of the generosity and the help of others.  Whether it was someone who took time to do an informational interview for you when you're learning about the company or a mentor who helped you through a particularly challenging time.  We are never alone on our career journey.  One of the most important things you can do is to let these people know how grateful you are for their time and energy. Most of us are conscious of this and express gratitude in the moment or in a follow up email but sometimes we don't let people know what happened afterwards.  How their help or support helped to create a link in the chain to success.     Action: Think of who may have helped shape your perspective this year, someone who went above and beyond for you, or someone who inspired your actions.  Drop them a line and let them know HOW their work, guidance, or input helped you unlock that next level.    Reflection My most successful clients have developed a reflection loop that gets results. This loop typically includes informed action, measurable results (that are actually measured), calculated adjustments, time for reflection, and integrated learnings.  This process is happening daily, weekly, monthly, and annually. There's never a definitive reset like a new years resolution or birthday. The desire for continuous improvement whether it's with networking, interviewing, or excelling in a role, is happening in real time.      Action: What stage are you in on your reflection loop today?  How can you get to the next step?
